Eddie Van Halen and Michael Anthony never spoke directly before Van Halen’s death last month, but Sammy Hagar has revealed that Eddie asked him to pass along a message to him very shortly before he died. Alternative Nation transcribed Hagar’s remarks from an Eddie Trunk interview on SiriusXM.

“The first thing I said was, ‘Hey Ed, you know I’ve reached out, I’ve called Al, I’ve left messages for Al, emails, I’ve left emails with Irving Azoff. He goes, ‘Yeah, but you didn’t call me. Why the fuck didn’t you call me.’

I was like, ‘That’s all I needed to hear.’ He was a wise guy, just had to give me a little poke! I said, ‘Well I’m calling you now dude.’ It was all just one big love fest, ‘I love you, I miss you.’ We just went on from there.

It was such a great feeling, but the first thing he said was, ‘Please don’t tell anyone about this. I don’t want to talk about it, I don’t want someone to stir up a reunion. I don’t want people to know about my health.’ I said, ‘You got it.’

I didn’t even tell my friends that this was going on. About two months to go, I told my manager, and I told Mikey, because Ed said, ‘Tell Mikey I said hey man, y-text-revealed/”>give him my love. I miss the guy.’ I told Mike that, and he was going like, ‘What?’ But when you’ve got a person in his situation, with the fame, and the mystique, and then being ill, I’m on his team. I would never go out and publicize that.”
