Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, or so they say. What they don’t say is that it is also a sign of weakness. But we’ll leave that topic for another time. Recently, Mr. Van Halen himself was caught covering certain U2 songs, and we wonder why…

As per Pearl Jam Online, Yesterday, U2, the madcap guys from Ireland, were honored by United States President Joe Biden at the Kennedy Center Honors show for their significant contributions to American culture and arts. That’s a big accomplishment for a former choir boy from Ireland.

After Sean Penn, the former actor from Fast Times at Ridgemont High joked about U2, calling them “four scrappy Dublin punks.” – them’s are fighting words if you ask me; Eddie Vedder performed Elevation and One in honor of the Irish band. But did it sound as good as the original? I don’t think so.

The full show will be aired Dec. 28 on CBS (8 p.m. EST/PST) and live-streamed on Paramount +.
