EDDIE VEDDER pays TOUCHING TRIBUTE to TOM PETTY, JOHN BELUSHI, and other SNL legends who have passed.
Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder was one of many legendary musicians who took part in Friday night’s “SNL50: Homecoming Concert.” During his two song set, Vedder and The Roots covered Tom Petty’s “The Waiting.”

Midway through the song, Vedder spoke about Petty and the many people who once worked on “Saturday Night Live” who are no longer with us.

“This is a Tom Petty song. I sure miss that man,” Vedder started. “I was thinking about all the people that could be here that… we will be missing tonight. Like, I’ll just say one word, one name. And just think, imagine, if she were here. Gilda. Gilda Radner would be here. She would not miss this. Phil Hartman. Tom Davis. The genius, Hal Willner. Michael O’Donoghue. Chris Farley. Norm Macdonald. John Belushi. He’s in our hearts. In your hearts. So it feels like you can pull him down to be here. John, the gang is all here.”

Vedder continued, recalling a dream he had about Petty: “Sometimes you get lucky, you have a dream – like I had one with Tom. And it’s not even like a dream, it’s real. You’re having a conversation you’ve never had before with someone that you’ve been missing. And then, he says, ‘At some point I gotta go.’ And you’re like, ‘No – Tom, Tom, two more questions.’ He says, ‘I gotta go.’ And you’re like, ‘One more question.’ He says, ‘Eddie, Eddie. It’s gonna be okay.’”
