Eddie Vedder Sings “Hunger Strike” First Time Since Chris Cornell Death

Pearl Jam performed at the Mad Cool Festival on Thursday, and during “Better Man” Eddie Vedder sang part of “Hunger Strike” for the first time since Chris Cornell’s death in May 2017. Vedder sang the ‘going hungry’ part at times during the song. Temple of the Dog toured in 2016, but Eddie Vedder did not appear at any shows. The last time Vedder and Cornell sang “Hunger Strike” together was during a 2014 Temple of the Dog performance.

  • Olga Stewart

Damn it but I have something in my eye. ♥

  • bryan mannoia

so eddie mumbles the words “going hungry” during a performance of better man and it’s news?!

    • Nitro Noriega

He’s the Bono of 90s rock. More hype than talent. More opinions than brain cells. Sadly, the only survivor of the great four frontmen (Cobain, Staley &
Cornell) to emerge from Seattle… And he was from Cali, to boot. If only Andrew Wood had left the smack behind. We may never have had to endure Jeremy speaking in class.

    • I H8 RotnLies

      Lmao

  • Christina Hurst

To think I will never hear that song again sung by Chris sux….Im not a Eddie Vedder fan. Him and his wife are activist that shit on people who dont believe like them. Thats not cool. You can be a mellow activist.

    • Nitro Noriega

      cornell was awesome.

      vedder is nothing in comparison.

  • ellie

She lies and says she loves him….can’t find a better man. Lol..touche’ Eddie

    • I H8 RotnLies

“She’s in love with him” 😉

      • ellie

        My bad 😉

        • ellie

Like myself, a few of you “got” where Eddie went with that song..Like Chris, he too is a deep thinker with lyrics. He so despises…her.

  • Igor

Yeah to bad he couldn’t spare a few hours for one show during the temple of the dog tour to put his ego aside and play second fiddle to Chris, and sing a few lines and some backup vocals to the people and band who got him his fame and wealth. What a loser.

    • icareyetidontcare

Despite the music being recorded and released prior to Pearl Jam’s Ten Album, it wasn’t really mainstream until Pearl Jam had their breakthrough to mainstream airplay. While he could have put his ego aside and participated as a side project, he didn’t. It’s also important to note that a good chunk of the band members of Temple of the Dog were also members of Pearl Jam at about the same time, so you can’t easily say that he went with another band and abandoned those who helped him gain fame and wealth.

      • Igor

What I’m saying is yes the guys in TOTD ended up in Pearl Jam and those guys made Eddie famous and rich, so he should have supported their band, sucked up his ego and showed up for a few shows as a guest to sing the bands most known song. It felt lazy and selfish that he wouldn’t support the guys who gave him the opportunity and fame he has today.

  • makingconnections

I don’t get it…Donald Trump is in Europe diminishing the U.S. and the whole world with his ego and his bombastic personality and desire for power and you supposed music lovers are analyzing and judging a musician. (a musician who is trying to help people to open their eyes!) Is it envy? Is it trying to deflect from the reality of what’s happening in the world? These are strange times.

Oh yes, if only Andrew Wood had lived you’d be more comfortable. Good God you’re unbelievable.

    • Nitro Noriega

You’re unhinged. Have you screamed at the sky today?

Trump 2020! Looking forward to another batch of fresh liberal tears!

By the way- Eddie Vedder is a self-proclaimed psycho who has admitted to not trusting himself with a gun, so he thinks nobody should have them. The guy is an emotional soy boy who drinks too much wine and was never truly educated.

I knew I was too reckless to own a motorcycle, but I never ran around trying to ban them.

Want fascism? Vote democrat. Because we can trust ourselves… We need a nanny state!

But nanny states always become police states.

You can only end up with a fascist government if they have control of economy, healthcare, have implemented eugenics (abortion, assisted suicide) and have seized any means of defense by those who would be conquered.(gun control)

But yea- Trump is a bad guy.

Be thankful Hillary, the face of fascism was rejected by people smart enough to know that Eddie Vedder is a soy bean… And Trump is the best thing to happen to America since people realized fat, salt and sugar are bad for us !

      • bryan mannoia

I admit it. I am addicted to liberal tears. Trump 2020.

        • makingconnections

Maybe that’s it! Trump fills the void in your life and someone finally responds to you by getting angry when you’re contemptuous towards their concern about their country. You’re somebody! I think that’s probably the case for many Trump supporters.

      • ellie

hahahha…have you screamed at the sky today..I’m LMAO right now!!!!

        • Nitro Noriega

That would probably be the most exercise that fat A of yours has seen all year! You’re welcome

          • ellie

Actually I thought it was a funny line, agreeing with you..also my ass is not fat. Rude person

          • Nitro Noriega

            Rude person..
Well well well… You got me there…

And clearly I was too dumb to realize you actually were laughing with me. My bad. Rude? Yea, I am…but willing to apologize when wrong. Accept if you will. If not, I’ll do my best to not repeat same mistake with others going forward.

          • ellie

            Apology accepted..Rude person 😉

          • Nitro Noriega

            Raphael was cool, but rude.

Look, I’m no ninja turtle, but I’m ok… Once you get to know me. Haha.

            Thanks!

      • makingconnections

I was hoping you’d actually respond to my post with something that would help me to understand why Donald Trump supporters feel the way they do. Instead they attack and act bombastic themselves as their leader does.
I’m always, in conversations, saying no, it’s not that Trump’s base is uneducated, no it’s not that he gives them a license to hate, no it’s not just that life hasn’t treated them well and they aren’t bright enough to realize that they have to make their lives better themselves. Donald Trump will only make things worse. I guess I’ll keep thinking that and hope that I’ve just run into a few angry people.

I have screamed at the sky once…a friend died in a tragic way in front of her two children. I cared for them a lot and a psychiatrist told me to take them out on the deck and scream. We couldn’t do it…only our smallest voices came out.

        • Nitro Noriega

Weird reply. Very strange response, indeed…but that IS a legitimate reason to simply scream out…. Sorry to hear about that.

          • makingconnections

I don’t know what’s so weird about my reply, but we all create our own realities I guess. I truly don’t understand why people support President Trump. Too many people just write off the supporters as ignorant…I’m trying to tell you that I don’t think that’s it and I’m tell you I was hoping to understand a little. The comments on here haven’t helped at all. I think the closest thing I can express as understanding is that I think Trump has somehow managed to tap into the disappointment that so many feel and I believe he’s using people and making them angrier.

          • Nitro Noriega

You’re entitled to your opinion. May I freely form my own without you policing my thoughts and speech? Just say yes and we’lI move on

          • makingconnections

Let’s just move on regardless. You are free, completely free. I will express myself when I wish to…free as well.

          • Nitro Noriega

Difference is, if someone attacks me, I employ the 2nd Amendment.

1st amendment gives the dog a bark, but the 2nd gives the dog a bite.

          • makingconnections

O.K. Nitro, you can have the last word…now rest, go to bed and wake up tomorrow full of hope!

          • Nitro Noriega

Haha. Your reply is dripping with irony.

          • makingconnections

No, We’re all human beings here and it’s late and I wish you rest and hope.

          • Nitro Noriega

            Ok. Well, back atcha.

            be well

          • Corndog

I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Nothing like chest thumping gung-ho American bullshit to make you feel queasy in the morning. You’re like a caricature. Seriously, do you hear yourself?

          • Nitro Noriega

Next time keep your, puke,to yourself… Or better yet, choke on it

          • Corndog

            You first, dipshit.

          • Nitro Noriega

            What a retort!

that was almost as unoriginal as Eddie Vedder’s style.

          • Corndog

You seem strangely obsessed with Eddie Vedder, especially for someone that says they don’t like his music. Tell me, have you ever crashed your car into his house by any chance?

It’s quite simple really. You don’t like Pearl Jam? Don’t listen to them. Don’t seek out and comment on internet articles about them. It’s not rocket science.

You also seem to be labouring under the false impression that i care what you think of Eddie/PJ. I really don’t. Not at all. Nor do i care what you say about them either. Why would I? Call him all the names you like if that’s what it takes for you to get your kicks. It makes zero difference to my life, and i don’t imagine that he would give a shit either. It’s not like i know the guy so i’m hardly going to be offended because you’re badmouthing someone who is a complete stranger to me.

          • Nitro Noriega

You don’t care yet you wrote that ?

            Get a life

          • Corndog

Yes, that’s right. I couldn’t care less about your opinion of Eddie Vedder. Is that really so hard to understand? Took all of 2 minutes to type that. Are you afraid of words or something?

Get a life? What, you mean one like yours where i spend all my time weirdly obsessing over a band that i claim to dislike? No thanks. I’ll pass.

          • Nitro Noriega

Haha. You’re almost as emotional as that beta soy boy you get wet for.

          • Corndog

Soy boy? I have no idea what that even means. As for having emotions, nothing wrong with that. You should try it sometimes. There are things to feel other than anger.

          • Nitro Noriega

Anger is an emotion. I have a wide range if them… You happen to bring none of the more positive ones out in me. So, be gone with you…

          • Corndog

Yes it is indeed, and apparently the only one that you’re capable of expressing. What exactly was it that you’re angry with me about again? I’ve lost track.

Wide range? Hmmm. Last post you made, apparently emotions were bad. Make your mind up man.

          • Corndog

Clearly you’ve set the bar too high with your highly intellectual comments. I apologise that i cannot reach the soaring heights that your comments do.

          • Nitro Noriega

            Eddie Vedder sucks

          • Corndog

Really? How was it for you?

          • Nitro Noriega

Sloppy, like everything else he has ever done.

          • Corndog

Yeah. So sloppy that he is in one of the most successful rock bands of all time, still going strong after 27 years, can play anywhere he wishes (with or without the band) to his millions of fans worldwide. He probably sits up late at night wondering if he’ll ever make it, and crying over you; the one that got away……

You’re really quite amusing. Keep it up! I’ve had a shit couple of weeks and i could use a laugh!

          • Nitro Noriega

You have had a shitty couple weeks because you put energy into defending elitist, ignorant, uneducated drunks like Vedder…. Energy better spent making what life you have …um…better

          • Corndog

Actually, no. I had a shitty couple of weeks because my father died under unpleasant circumstances and i discovered his putrefied remains. It was kind of a shock to the system.

Unlike you, my life does not revolve around Eddie Vedder……

          • Nitro Noriega

Why are you sharing such private and personal information with someone who A.) You don’t know and B.) Someone who has been trolling you?

Sorry for your loss, but have some self respect and take some pride in yourself. Cripes.

And my life revolves around me and what’s most important to me… Eddie Vedder and you for that matter are just noise… Like a mosquito…

          • Corndog

It’s not private. It’s not a state secret, and it’s good to share. Troll away. Tells me all I need to know about what kind of person you are. I’m struck by the irony in you telling someone else to have self respect; but I’m certain it would be lost on you.

Eddie Vedder is just noise to you…yet here you are day after day putting such effort into talking about him. If you care so little then why do you go on and on about him so much?

You’re a joke man, and I can assure you I’m laughing at you, not with you. Pathetic little angry manchild bizarrely obsessed with a singer he claims to hate. If constantly crying and whining like a little girl about a band you don’t like is what you think passes for self respect then you knock yourself out. Oh and you can take your faux ‘sorry’ and work it right up your bangle.

          • Nitro Noriega

            Dude… just stop…

Learn hwne to quit… You were ahead. I gave you that.

            Take the off ramp, pal.

          • Corndog

Oh yes i know i was ahead, that much was obvious. Have been since the beginning of this charming exchange. It wasn’t difficult at all.

I’ll give you this though. You actually managed to post two comments without mentioning your secret man crush, Eddie Vedder. I’m proud of you. I know that can’t have been easy. You can have two scoops tonight, just be careful not to spill any on your Pearl Jam pyjamas!

          • Nitro Noriega

You’d lick your own ass if you could…

          • Corndog

No need when you’re here to do it for me.

          • Nitro Noriega

            Keep dreaming, chump

          • Corndog

Are you still talking? All I hear is blah, blah, blah. You’re a total bell end. Why don’t you do one and go find another site filled with like minded dipshits like yourself?

          • Nitro Noriega

            You’re a fag

          • Corndog

Given your bizarre obsession with Eddie Vedder, I think you’re clearly projecting here…

          • Nitro Noriega

Considering you keep accusing me of that, the projection is on you… Calling you a fag is just stating facts. You have Ten for your avatar and defend the beta male singer like he’s your boy toy, so again- nice try projecting your projections on me but you are a failure who should’ve run down the wrinkly crack between your mom’s saggy tatas when your dad was done using her for whatever she was worth.

          • Corndog

Lol! You really are precious. You ‘prove’ you’re not projecting by doing it again in your very next post!! Golf clap, dipshit!

By the way, that comment about my mother, consider this your first and only warning. You want to act like a fucking animal, you can go somewhere else and do it. A bit of banter is one thing, but there is a limit. You make another comment like that, and it will be your last one on this site.

          • Nitro Noriega

Triggered? More like melted… You are a snowflake. Little piggy went wah wah wah all the way home to your mommy. Flag me and prove your spinelessness.

          • Corndog

Triggered. Snowflake. Butthurt. Same tired old internet buzzword bullshit. Try thinking for yourself for once….

That’s it. You’re done. We don’t need obnoxious pieces of human garbage such as yourself around here. You were warned. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

          • Nitro Noriega

Warning? Come get me, you golf clapping limp wrister

          • Nitro Noriega

You are like that dumb little yapper dog who won’t stop barking and nipping at the big dog, who tolerates, tolerates and tolerates until suddenly the big dog has had enough and grabs the little dog by the neck and shakes the life out of if… And while being shaken to, death, dumb little dog wonders, “why?” When all you had to do was STFU and #walkaway….

            You dumb, little yapper

          • makingconnections

..there’s something sort of humorous about you wanting me not to police your thoughts and speech…someone who throws their weight around and doesn’t know what a twerp is. Are you sort of asking for mercy? I know I’m having too much fun with this, but you harassed my friend Olga.

          • Nitro Noriega

It is a movie quote, twerp!

          • Nitro Noriega

And Olga is also a twerp…

      • Olga Stewart

        And you’re a twerp.

        Leave mc alone.

        • Nitro Noriega

          Twerp!!!! Hahahahaha

I love it! I love it!

          What is a twerp……???

          :/

          • makingconnections

I think a twerp is a person whose words are of little consequence to you…sort of like an irritation, but nothing much.

          • Nitro Noriega

You replied to a movie quote.

Since that was over your head, you, I should point out that you must be at least 3 feet tall to ride this ride, twerp.

          • makingconnections

Oh whatever Nitro Noriega….I’m busy this evening watching President Trump play lap dog to Vladimir Putin. Beyond belief don’t you think? Or do you love it?!

          • Nitro Noriega

            You would.

But hey… Ping me when the sky is melting… Or just scream at the sky… Maybe it will stop melting….

            Trump 2020, beeyatch

          • makingconnections

No need to attack…and call names. Calm down and accept the good wishes from me. This is my last comment.

          • Nitro Noriega

No need to reply…except to appear as though you’ve taken the higher road.

The 2 men responsible for 92% of the world’s nukes met yesterday. So far, so good. Be well.

          • Corndog

You mean the 1 man, right?

          • Nitro Noriega

            Sorry… One man and a commie thug….

And to think it could have been two commie thugs had Hillary won….

Good thing you didn’t get your way!

          • Corndog

My way? I’m not sure what you’re referring to. What way is that?

      • Olga Stewart

Also, I think that you are the unhinged one.

        • Nitro Noriega

I know you are, but what am I?
          Haha. Olga.

    • bryan mannoia

triggered much? we don’t agree with you. deal with it.

      • makingconnections

Oh you’re not that tough nor threatening. You’ve triggered nothing in me. I’m simple having a conversation with you.

        • bryan mannoia

right, I was being neither tough nor threatening. I was being observant. you are triggered, as most libs are these days. why else would you discuss the president in a thread about eddie vedder? a simple conversation isn’t as accusatory as your post. I wasn’t crazy about Trump as a candidate but the truth is he is doing a great job. the economy is up, unemployment is down. we are reworking our miserable trade agreements. we are tightening border security. as a bonus, Trump got all you libs to take your masks off and show yourselves for the fascists you truly are.

          • makingconnections

Isn’t it interesting how people use the language of “therapy”, like triggered, in their effort to be armchair psychiatrists? I am not “triggered” over Donald Trump. I’m triggered if something reminds me of a truly frightening time in my personal life. Politics don’t touch me so closely and I am taking part in a discussion on a music site. I call myself a left-leaning person but am not a member of our Liberal Party in Canada. I tend to vote strategically and hope that all parties will work together. This dividing into them and us and fighting against anyone that you think differs with you in their thinking is not helpful. I participate in the back and forth as you do I admit!

Have you seen the TV news this morning? Crowds are protesting the actions of Donald Trump in Scotland. That country is having to spend millions of dollars of their citizen’s tax dollars so that Donald Trump can inspect his Scottish golf course. Seems unfair to me. Much of the world cannot understand why the US allowed such a man to become president, not just Eddie Vedder and not just me. We are all trying to participate in our world democracies to rid the world of a dangerous leader who is not a good example for his own citizens. We are not fascists and neither are you a Nazi. Those are not words to use carelessly.

          • Corndog

You do realise that it’s possible to both think Trump is an asshole, and not be a liberal?

          • Olga Stewart

Do you think they know what the word realize means?

            Sigh!

          • bryan mannoia

possible but unlikely. i’m not a fan of him personally but I like the improvements to our economy and border security. carry on, mod.

          • Corndog

I’m not a liberal, and I think Trump is a moron. The two do not go hand in hand.

          • bryan mannoia

do you also dislike the seriously improved economy? as I said, i’m not a fan of his personally, but I like the work he’s been doing. much better than the last joke we had for president.

          • Corndog

            Not we, I’m not American.

          • bryan mannoia

that sentence didn’t make sense, but I get that you aren’t American. in that case, I no longer care about your opinion. we are coming first for a change, I can understand why you don’t like it.

          • Corndog

            It did make sense……
You said “much better than the last joke we had for president” to which i replied, “not we, I’m not American”. It’s not that hard to figure out really.

You no longer care about my opinion? Well, that’s just plain rude, but whatever works for you i guess. Only American opinions EVER matter, right? Well, i suppose that is the message your glorious leader is trying to get across; you know, in between sucking up to despots (North Korea no longer a threat he said….as they intensify their nuclear program. Well done, you gormless orangutan. As the rest of the world expected, the little shit played him for the fool he clearly is) and treating allies like shite.

“we are coming first for a change, I can understand why you don’t like it.” Oh please. Enough with the melodrama. It’s not a race, nor is it a competition. I have nothing against America in principal (although i do admit that all that patriotism, military worship and insistence that you’re the best at everything always, does tend to get real old real fast), nor do i have any issues with it doing well. I just can’t stand the obnoxious, arrogant, narcissistic, feckless orange gimp that is currently in office. I mean christ, how bad do you have to be when Bush Jr. looks like the better option? You can come first, second, third, whatever. I really don’t care, so long as you keep that shit to yourselves, but sadly, that is not the case. Your madness is spreading, so the world has no choice but to be involved. I mean, really, In a time where climate change is causing serious issues the world over, that asshole says it’s not a thing, (like everything else it’s true just because HE says so) and wants to revitalise the coal industry? The guy is a moron. Half the crap he says is demonstrably wrong and incorrect, but so long as it is punctuated with a “fuck yeah! Great again, blah blah blah!’ his supported will buy any old crap he spews. He tells so many lies that he can’t keep up. He’s say something on the news, then a few hours later, when asked about it, claims that it didn’t happen and is fake news, despite the fact that you can look it up and see if for yourself. You’d think that someone that spends as much time online as he does would have heard of Youtube…even his wife clearly can’t stand to be in his company. That’s what you get when you marry to further your social standings i suppose, so i have no sympathy for her.

America is not the world; despite what some of you seem to think, and if you can’t see how much that moron is damaging your place in it then you’re blind, and nothing i can say is likely to change it. Give it a few years though. Harley Davidson and BMW are just the beginning. You’ll all start to feel the full economic outcome of his stupid policies soon enough.

I’m done. No need to reply, as you don’t care about my opinion right? So i don’t see any reason to care about yours either. Good day.

That’s a very good effort to say what so many the world over are thinking about “the greatest nation in the world”. They are going to find themselves living on their own little island, with few trading partners, running out of their own resources, their lands destroyed because of lack of care of the environment–seriously-we’re all in for fires and floods because of carelessness, but if they stop trying they harm themselves and all of us. That’s in the end what really bothers me. Most aware people know that we are all connected on this earth. We can’t indulge in Nationalism and caring only for ourselves. I think that’s what every single astronaut comes home saying: “We just a tiny little planet and everything is connected!” I

Donald Trump’s supporters are as destructive to the well being of the whole world, just as he is.

          • Corndog

It truly baffles me how people can be so blind. I’ve tried to stay out of these conversations as much as possible but felt I had to say something.

We should be endeavouring to come closer together, not move further apart. That’s why I don’t approve of Trump and why I don’t approve of Brexit. Future generations are going to look back at this time and think we were off our rockers.

for a mod here, you don’t really have much else to do, do you? maybe spend your time editing the crappy writing here. I cared about your opinion for awhile but you are ridiculously interested in our president for a foreigner, and your opinion is as boring as any of our liberals. especially repeated as many times as you have done here. I don’t spend any time concerning myself with the doings of other world leaders but then I have a company to run and a life to live. piss off!

          • Corndog

You don’t seem to understand what a mod is. Why would I be editing the writing? The writing has absolutely nothing to do with me. I’m not an editor, nor am I an employee of this site. Just user like you and everyone else. You have an issue with the writing then take it up with Brett.

I’d be quite happy to ignore your pathetic excuse for a leader if he closed your borders and threw a big dome over the country, but unfortunately the shit he says and does is affecting the entire world in a negative way. I just saw the prick on TV last night singing Kim Jong-un’s praises; saying what a wonderful human being he was. Is that seriously the sort of person you wish to align yourself with, seriously? A man who sings the praises of tyrants while shitting on your allies?

Piss off? You first. No one forces you to come here. If you don’t like it here, then stop visiting the site. You should probably get back to your business. Those silly red hats aren’t going to make themselves! MURICA, FUCK YEAH!

        • Olga Stewart

I’ve come to the conclusion that some people do not understand the concept of holding a decent conversation with others.

There’s quite a few examples of this in this very comment thread (including the ‘triggered much?’ comment).

Yes, we’re invited to join the discussion and yet so many just are smarmy and smart alecy. Somehow they must get the idea from being on other sites that it’s the best way to operate on the internet. I think those sites are contributing to the horrible way that so many are communicating generally, that and having a troll President doesn’t exactly set a good standard for communicating in a valid way. The Brits had some tremendous signs in their protests didn’t they? -and in Scotland, “President Trump is below par”, flying over his golf course. Why these people who must be a little interested in music are so mean spirited, I don’t understand. I guess I’m naive, thinking that music and a desire for love and respect go hand in hand. Obviously we’re taking a break from those days!

          • Olga Stewart

When I heard that Trump was going to have tea with the queen, I thought that there might be a dungeon he could be thrown into if he acted up.

            No such luck. :(.

As for some of these posters, I have no idea why they act the way they do.

It isn’t smart, it isn’t funny, and they just make themselves look like idiots (or even bigger idiots than they already are).

I now really only come to this site to keep up with you, Trovoid, Corndog, and Kay.

Well, there are a few articles here and there that are interesting to read. But for the most part I’m just trying to catch up with you four. :).

            ..some real goons!

First time being called a fascist. The world is going crazy.

          • Olga Stewart

I usually get called the far ruder names.

But at some point, I’m sure they will run out of those particular words. *BG*

          • makingconnections

Fascist is pretty bad…but consider the source. We’d be in big trouble if they approved of us!

No, Trump doesn’t deserve an ounce of sympathy. I think he’s finally done himself in as President..if the American people put up with his betrayal and continue to support him–I don’t know what the future holds for any of us.

I wish they’d stop calling the US, leaders of the Free World….I don’t think so.

          • Olga Stewart

Eh but people like that just aren’t really worth the attention.

So I just both roll my eyes at their comments and move on.

My mother-in-law is surprised that Trump hasn’t been impeached yet. And I have to say that I agree with her.

          • makingconnections

I almost felt sorry for Donald when he was with the Queen inspecting the guards…talk about being out of your league.

          • Olga Stewart

I just can’t feel sorry for him.

He makes it quite difficult to do so.

          • Corndog

I really have no love lost for the queen either, but at least she has some sense of decorum.

      • ellie

I totally don’t agree with you. This is a chat about Chris Cornell, not Politics. Every day we read the politic shit, a article about something else takes us away from it all..take it on the battleground but not here.
