Eddie Vedder’s daughters perform at Ohana Festival
Eddie Vedder has headlined the Ohana Festival every year since its 2016 inception, may it be as a solo act himself, with Pearl Jam, and with the Earthlings. Vedder did not disappoint at the Ohana Fest opened in on Friday night. Vedder was back by Chris Chaney, Glen Hansard, Josh Klinghoffer, Chad Smith, and Andrew Watt in the Earthlings — and he delivered a fresh set for longtime fans.
The day was full of surprises prior to his headlining set. Vedder joined Lukas Nelson for a moving version of “Just Breathe” before reappearing with Hawaiian collective Makua to cover Jane’s Addiction’s “Been Caught Stealing.” The Earthlings covered Devo’s “Gut Feeling,” and then went into the Pearl Jam classic “Corduroy,” along with a mix of solo and Earthlings songs.
One of the highlights of the night was when Vedder’s daughters and frequent collaborators, Harper and Olivia, joined him on “Better Man” following “Save It For Later.” Vedder then honored “all the badass women who played today” before leading the band into an epic instrumental cover of Led Zeppelin’s “The Song Remains The Same.”
The encore featuring George Harrison’s “Isn’t It A Pity” (introduced as “a song from a great human”) mix with a “Hey Jude” singalong. The set closed with Pearl Jam’s Grunge hit “Porch” before Eddie’s favorite set closer “Rockin’ in the Free World” featuring Kelly Jones of Stereophonics, Vedder’s daughters returning to the stage, and many more.
