Lemonheads frontman Evan Dando has reportedly been hospitalized for mental health treatment following allegations from a fan who claims he sent her unsolicited explicit videos.

According to journalist Tony Ortega’s Substack, “The Underground Bunker,” the fan said she and Dando had previously tweeted back and forth, but hadn’t communicated in years. In October, she reached out via direct message on Twitter/X to congratulate him on the Lemonheads’ recently released album, “Love Chant.”

She alleges that Dando didn’t respond until earlier this month, when he replied, “Cool I’m sorry I’m an exibitionish.” Unsure how to interpret the message, she responded, “Don’t ever apologize for being you, my friend. Always be unapologetic. And you.”

A few days later, she claims she woke up to several messages from Dando, including one asking whether it would be “cool” to send her an “art” photo. She alleges that he then sent a video of himself touching himself.

The woman says she immediately informed her husband, and the couple documented the messages while considering whether to contact authorities. She further alleges that the following day, Dando sent another similar video, followed by a message that read, “Ok sorry thanks I just need an outlet Cheers.”

She told Ortega that they decided to come forward about the videos in hopes of preventing similar incidents.

“I’ve never felt anger like that,” she said. “It’s so gross. I don’t want him to do this to anyone else. It’s just a gross feeling.”

A representative for Dando has since shared a statement to Rolling Stone.

“Evan Dando has long struggled with mental health issues dating back to his childhood,” the statement read. “He has been admitted to a local hospital, where he is receiving comprehensive care from experienced doctors and mental health professionals.”
