Avenged Sevenfold frontman M. Shadows discussed the band boycotting tonight’s Grammy Awards ceremony after it was revealed that the Best Rock Song category won’t air on television. M. Shadows told Eddie Trunk (transcribed by Ultimate-Guitar):

“Yes [it’s true that we will not be attending]. Not really a protest per se, but fuck ’em.”

“Hotels, planes, flights for the wives, tickets for the event – the whole thing for them to go would cost $150,000.

“And then they go and pull the ‘Rock Song of the Year’ award from TV and put us in some side venue no one gives a fuck about? Fuck that waste of time and money. No respect.

“I mean, how marginalized has rock become when ‘Rock Song of the Year’ can’t get two minutes?

Trunk explained that Matt told him the reason for such high expenses would be the fact that the band is on tour and they would have to take a jet from South Dakota to New York and then to Oklahoma.

The band previously tweeted:

“Honored [to be nominated]. Unfortunately they have taken ‘Best Rock Song’ off the telecast this year so we won’t be attending. Maybe next time.”

As reported, the metal category of the Grammy’s was already out of the telecast, meaning that guitar-driven music will have almost no coverage during the show.

Grammy Award Best Rock Song 2018 nominees:

Foo Fighters – ‘Run’
Avenged Sevenfold – ‘The Stage’
Metallica – ‘Atlas, Rise!’
K.Flay – ‘Blood in the Cut’
Nothing More – ‘Go to War’
