Dave Grohl-led Foo Fighters recently kicked off their UK tour in Manchester and they surprised the fans with a song that they played. Last night, June 13, Dave Grohl and co. took over the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester to begin their summer UK stint and the band reshuffled their setlist to add in a surprise or two.

It has been noted that the biggest surprise of the night turned out to be a previously unheard song, ‘Unconditional’. A representative of the band told Consequence of Sound that the song was “partially written and demo’d during home studio sessions years ago — but ultimately left unfinished.”

The statement continued: “The band’s rediscovery of ‘Unconditional’ happened in true spontaneous Foo Fighters fashion: The song came up in conversation during rehearsals for the UK tour, and all it took was one run-through — The decision was made instantly to share it with everyone in the same way – live.”

Foo Fighters began their set with performances of ‘Monkey Wrench’, ‘Learn To Fly’ and ‘No Son Of Mine’. Other hits they played throughout the night included ‘The Pretender’, ‘Walk’, ‘My Hero’, ‘The Sky Is A Neighbourhood’ and ‘Best Of You’.

Following the June 13 concert, the band are set to play six more shows in the UK throughout June, resuming with another Manchester concert on June 15 and ending with a show in Birmingham on June 27. Foo Fighters recently released their 11th and latest studio album, ‘But Here We Are’, last June before playing a surprise hits-filled set at Glastonbury 2023.

It has come to light that the Foo Fighters’ initial schedule of 2024 U.S. dates is set to last two weeks and include stops at the New Orleans Jazz Fest, Shaky Knees Festival, and Welcome to Rockville. In June, the band heads to the U.K. and Europe for a performance and will return to North America for a longer run of dates beginning in July. Mammoth WVH and the Pretenders are also slated to open select concerts later in the summer.

This also marks the Foo Fighters first extensive North American tour with Josh Freese as part of the band. The drummer, who took over for the late Taylor Hawkins in 2023, previously joined the group for some one-off U.S. dates and a tour of Australia and New Zealand.
