Foo Fighters new album is coming
Foo Fighters have a new album and North American tour coming next year, with the band releasing a clip of lead single “Asking For A Friend.” This will seemingly be the band’s first new album with drummer Ilan Rubin, as he is featured in promotional material, though Dave Grohl could drum on the album as he did on 2023’s But Here We Are.
Illan Rubin is one of the most respected multi-instrumentalists of his time — known for his powerhouse drumming with Nine Inch Nails, Angels & Airwaves, and Paramore’s live lineup. His addition brings technical precision and a modern edge that could change the Foo Fighters’ sound in a way not heard since Taylor Hawkins’ early days with the band.
Still, Grohl is known for handling drums himself, dating back to replacing William Goldsmith’s parts on The Color and the Shape. He also recorded all the drums on But Here We Are, an album fueled by grief and resilience following Hawkins’ passing. Whether Rubin plays on the record or joins primarily for the tour, only time will tell. He could be eased in like Taylor Hawkins, who drummed on half of There Is Nothing Left To Lose.
Foo Fighters’ upcoming tour will reportedly hit major cities across the U.S. and Canada, with larger venues hinting at an ambitious stage production. Expect the setlists to blend classic hits like “Everlong,” “The Pretender,” and “My Hero” with new songs like “Asking For A Friend.”
