Marco van Basten, former Netherlands football (soccer) star, criticized European football’s governing body UEFA for booking Linkin Park to perform ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final in Munich, Germany on Saturday (May 31st).

“The Linkin Park performance was garbage, absolutely garbage. It’s a disgrace that UEFA allows this,” Van Basten said, taking aim at the Mike Shinoda and Emily Armstrong fronted band.

While he called out Linkin Park, many think Van Basten’s frustrations lie with the UEFA’s decision to have a kick-off concert, rather than with the band itself.

“I find it absolutely idiotic,” he told Dutch broadcaster Ziggo Sport, adding that the pre-match entertainment was “worthless, totally worthless.”

Van Basten went on to argue that having a band perform directly before the match distracts players, calling the UEFA’s treatment of those players “laughable.”
