In a new Kerrang magazine interview, Billie Joe Armstrong discussed his cocaine binge during Green Day’s recording and early promotion of Uno, Dos, and Tre in 2012, which ultimately led to him going to rehab.

“I think we had to take a long break and just kinda do nothing for awhile,” muses Billie Joe. “I think the last records, I dunno, I was pretty fuzzy. It was pretty cloudy in my head, so I can’t really remember that much about it. It was great and I think there were some really great songs on there, but it’s…You know, we took a break. We took the sort of break we needed.”

We never sit still, even when we go home, and it took us this long to sit still for a minute and actually go, ‘Okay, this is what it’s like,’ concurs Mike Dirnt. “I think we’ve pretended to sit still before, but I don’t think we’ve ever actually stopped. And this is the first time we’ve actually hit the brakes and made ourselves want it so much, to come back and play and tour.”

“It’s just been…It’s humbling, going from a stadium to taking out the garbage,” laughs Billie Joe.
