Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan’s girlfriend and baby mama Chloe Mendel has joined in to troll fans and the media regarding rumors of who will play bass in the reunited Smashing Pumpkins with D’arcy Wretzky’s absence. Mendel posted a photo and wrote, “Rumors rumors rumors.. And y’all thought I couldn’t play bass….”
Guitarist Jeff Schroeder also trolled fans, posting a photo of a book titled: ‘Slap It! Funk Studies For The Electric Bass.’ Schroeder wrote, “And the rumors continue… #fourstringsarebetterthansix #smashingpumpkins.”
On Sunday, Corgan trolled fans with a ‘leaked’ photo of himself in a ‘funny hat.’ He joked that legendary Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones was visible in the background.
“ANOTHER leaked photo, this one of me in a funny hat. WTF? I think if you look closely enough you’ll see John Paul Jones hiding in the brim.”
Corgan followed that up with another post on Monday, where he indicated that Schroeder, James Iha, and himself will not play bass live, which means the Pumpkins will need a touring bassist.
Photos leaked from a photoshoot over the weekend revealing that Billy Corgan, James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlin, and Jeff Schroeder comprise the band’s reunion lineup. D’arcy Wretzky revealed a couple of weeks ago that she was ‘disappointed’ to be informed she was out of the reunion, and that the band will tour in July.
