Jack White’s Wife Files for Divorce

Jack White’s wife, Olivia Jean, recently filed for divorce from the White Stripes icon. It has been noted that the court documents detail Olivia Jean’s claims against White.

Jean filed the divorce petition on June 3 in Nashville, Tennessee, citing “inappropriate marital conduct” as the grounds for the split.

The filing states: “Wife would show that Husband is guilty of inappropriate marital conduct, which makes further cohabitation unsafe and improper.”

The divorce filing indicatesa broader set of legal demands that paint a fuller picture of the couple’s unraveling marriage after approximately four years together.

Jean cited a couple of grounds for divorce under Tennessee law: irreconcilable differences, a no-fault option, and inappropriate marital conduct, a fault-based claim. Tennessee is one of the few states that still recognizes fault-based divorce grounds alongside no-fault options. This legal framework allows Jean to pursue dissolution even if White contests the irreconcilable differences claim.

Under Tennessee law, “inappropriate marital conduct” is a modern legal term that replaces older language such as “cruel and inhuman treatment.” The standard requires that the conduct render cohabitation unsafe or improper — language that appears verbatim in Jean’s filing.

Beyond the grounds cited, Jean is also seeking spousal support, continued life insurance coverage, and has requested that White cover her legal expenses. She has also expressed a desire to enter into a Marital Dissolution Agreement to govern the distribution of marital assets. This signals that the proceedings could involve significant financial negotiations between the two parties.

The couple married roughly four years ago. Jean, a Detroit-born singer and guitarist — had been signed to White’s Third Man Records label before their relationship. The professional and personal ties between the two have long been intertwined, adding a layer of complexity to what is shaping up to be a closely watched legal separation.
