It was seven years back after Chris Cornell passed away, actor Jim Carrey took to Twitter to pay tribute to the late Soundgarden frontman. The popular actor went on to share that Cornell and the rest of the band gifted him a signed guitar. In May 1996, Carrey and Soundgarden also shared the stage on Saturday Night Live as the host and musical guest, respectively. Following the show, the band presented him with the guitar – the same guitar that Cornell played that night on SNL.
Soundgarden tribute with Jim Carrey
Jim Carrey certainly took a trip down memory lane and cherished the autographed guitar from the late Chris Cornell and his Soundgarden bandmates. The band and the actor were featured in one of the episodes of “Saturday Night Live” and the band perform two tracks off their Down on the Upside album – “Burden in My Hand” and “Pretty Noose”.
After Cornell’s death, Carrey tweeted a photo of the guitar and captioned it: “This is the guitar that Chris Cornell and Soundgarden gave to me the night we did ‘SNL’ together. A very special man.”
Cornell tragically passed away at the age of 52 by suicide in 2017. It happened just hours after, Cornell had played a full, 20-song Soundgarden gig at the Fox Theatre venue.
