Jim Carrey is inducting Soundgarden into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tonight, and 8 years ago, he shared a touching memory of the late Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell, reflecting on a special moment the two shared nearly three decades ago.

Following Cornell’s tragic passing, Carrey took to Twitter to post a photo of a guitar once gifted to him by Soundgarden, writing: “This is the guitar that Chris Cornell and Soundgarden gave to me the night we did ‘SNL’ together. A very special man.”

The gift dates back to May 1996, when Carrey hosted Saturday Night Live and Soundgarden served as the musical guest. That night, the band performed two songs from their then-new album Down on the Upside — “Burden in My Hand” and “Pretty Noose.”

After the show, Cornell and his bandmates surprised Carrey with the same guitar Cornell had played during the performance, signing it as a token of appreciation.

Carrey’s post served as both a tribute and a trip down memory lane, honoring Cornell’s legacy and the bond the actor shared with the iconic grunge frontman.

This Saturday, Soundgarden will be among the list which includes  Bad Company, The White Stripes and Joe Cocker for Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony in Los Angeles.

The evening will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theater through Disney+. ABC viewers will be able to tune into a highlight package of the ceremony on January 1st, with Hulu showing the ceremony from January 2nd.
