Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl had an eventful birthday. He turned 57 on Wednesday and celebrated with a performance on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, joining Ed Sheeran to perform the song “Drive.”

‘Drive’ was shortlisted for the Oscars 2026’s Best Original Song last month, alongside cuts by Nick Cave, Nine Inch Nails, KPop Demon Hunters, Miley Cyrus and more.
Upon releasing the track last summer, Sheeran wrote: “I knew that I wanted to make a proper rock song for [F1], a proper driving song. Something you’d wanna turn up to the fullest amount whilst driving.”
He also explained that Grohl and Palladino were “the final jigsaw pieces of the song”, adding that his collaborators were a “pure dream team for the genre of rock”.
“I really feel what we created fits the scene in the movie so well,” Sheeran said. […] “I’m so honoured to work with such great musicians on it, and hope you guys love the end result.”
Grohl plays drums on the track, which was recorded for the Brad Pitt movie F1. The Kimmel performance also featured John Mayer and Foos keyboardist Rami Jaffee, both of whom play on the studio version of the song.
Foo Fighters also recently played a benefit concert at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on Wednesday. In addition to marking Grohl’s birthday, the show raised money for the organizations Hope the Mission and Los Angeles Mission.
During the set, Grohl also talked about the fact that the Foos’ last appearance at the Forum was their 2022 tribute concert for late drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died earlier that year. He then dedicated a solo electric rendition of the song “Under You” to Hawkins.
Foo Fighters will play a show in Tasmania on January 24th, followed by a pair of U.S. festivals in May. They’ll then head to Europe in June before launching a U.S. stadium tour in August.
