Journey guitarist Neal Schon recently responded to a post from a parody account of Elon Musk on X. The account claimed it had found billions of dollars in government waste and asked followers if every American should get a $5,000 refund.
“Prove it,” Schon replied in the comments.
The parody account later posted, “I love Japan! Should I learn Japanese?” to which Schon jokingly responded, “Just get a computer chip.”
This isn’t the first time Schon has engaged with Musk or discussions surrounding him. In 2022, Schon expressed frustration over changes Musk made to Twitter. He believed the updates prevented him from sharing or re-tagging free videos.
“Everybody, please tune into my Facebook or Instagram as Elon has changed some things around here,” Schon wrote at the time. He added, “I believe Elon changed all Twitter settings so that I cannot give free videos or re-tag them.”
Schon has also interacted with Musk on political topics. Last year, Musk posted about the U.S. elections, questioning why Joe Biden had not dropped out of the race. Schon responded by mentioning Donald Trump’s stance on electric cars, asking Musk, “Donald wants to veer away from electric cars. What do you think about that?”
Schon’s political opinions have also led to conflicts within his band, Journey. His lawyer once sent a letter to the band’s keyboardist, Jonathan Cain, asking him to stop performing Journey songs at events for Donald Trump.
Despite the tensions, Schon remains outspoken about politics and social issues, regularly engaging with major figures like Musk on X.
