Kathy Griffin Targets Kid Rock in Detroit Return

Comedian Kathy Griffin is bringing her “New Face New Tour” to the Royal Oak Music Theatre on Saturday, and she’s made clear that Detroit-area audiences can expect her to take aim at local rock star Kid Rock. Griffin, 65, told a Detroit outlet this week that her sets have grown heavier in tone in recent years, but she still sees live comedy as a needed “laughter break” for people processing current events.

Griffin singled out Kid Rock while describing how she updates her material right up until curtain, and The Detroit News quoted her saying, “Don’t think Kid Rock is off the hook,” before she referenced “that video with him and RFK Jr.” and joked that it “writes itself.” The comment framed Kid Rock as a ready-made target in a show that Griffin says is designed to respond quickly to the news cycle.

Griffin’s tour comes after years of high-profile controversy and personal upheaval, including backlash over the 2017 photo in which she posed holding a fake, bloodied likeness of President Donald Trump’s severed head. Griffin told the newspaper she regrets apologising at the time, claiming the fallout cost her significant money in legal fees and led to cancelled work, including the end of her New Year’s Eve hosting role with Mr. Anderson Cooper on CNN. She also said her recent material draws on major life events, including illness and recovery, alongside her long-running style of celebrity run-ins and sharp political commentary.

The Kid Rock line also lands amid continued attention on his political associations, including his recent public visibility alongside Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a relationship Alternative Nation has covered in the past as Kid Rock defended RFK Jr. after the controversial video made the rounds online. Griffin suggested that kind of moment is precisely what her audience expects her to address, particularly in a region where Kid Rock is a lightning-rod figure.

Griffin is scheduled to perform in Royal Oak with doors opening at 6 p.m., and she emphasised that no two shows are the same because she continually reacts to breaking stories. For fans, the headline is straightforward: her Detroit return won’t be a greatest-hits nostalgia run, but a current-events set in which Kid Rock is already on the punch list.
