While it may sound like the setup to a joke, Kid Rock, Donald Trump, and Bill Maher will sit down for dinner at the White House at the end of March.
Rock, an extremely vocal Trump supporter, is apparently the mastermind behind the meeting, having organized the whole thing.
“I’m actually going to try and unite this country and I’m starting at the end of the month I’m taking Bill Maher to the White House for dinner. This guy who has done nothing but talk smack about the president since day one,” Rock said while speaking to The Blaze’s Glenn Beck.
While Maher has often been critical of Trump, he also fairly regularly calls out both Republicans and Democrats for behavior he doesn’t agree with on his show “Real Time with Bill Maher.”
Rock revealed that his motivation behind the dinner is to inspire people across the country to reach out to those they may have stopped talking to due to political differences.
Calling Maher “more reasonable than a lot of people on the right would think,” Rock added:
“I was doing his podcast, I said, if I could hook you guys up, that, that, and the other — and trust me, there’s a lot more people deserving at that table, you know, for dinner so it’s a big deal to me to bring him there and to even have the president be like, ‘Yeah, do it, let’s do it.’
“I go, ‘Man, what would it say to this country? Let’s start at the top with two very public figures, him, television comedian, you, President of the free world, and we can just break bread, have some laughs, take a picture and be like, hey, you know, we don’t agree on everything, but we got along.’ Does that start to send a message to people or do they just think I’m an idiot?”
