The left and right in rock react to Charlie Kirk

Kid Rock posted a photo with the late Charlie Kirk and Donald Trump Jr., as seen below. This comes after Rock had posted he was ‘praying’ for Kirk after he was shot earlier this week and prior to his death. Right wing musicians like Kid Rock and System of a Down’s John Dolmayan have posted positive tributes, but many liberals have posted negative things about Kirk.

The Music Reddit is using rock songs to mock Charlie Kirk after his death. The top upvoted songs are New Radicals “You Get What You Give” and Paramore’s “That’s What You Get.” Reddit discussion website largely used by liberal Democrats. Kirk, a conservative Republican speaker, was shot to death on Wednesday in Utah. Rock musicians have reacted to his death on social media, calling for a calming of political divide.

Other songs that are upvoted include Dead Kennedys’ “Nazi Punks F**k Off” and “Bella Ciao.” Tyler Robinson, the alleged shooter of Charlie Kirk, had the lyrics to “Bella Ciao” inscribed on a bullet. This suggests members of Reddit supporting the shooter.

“Bella Ciao” is most widely known as the anthem of the Italian anti-fascist resistance during World War II. It was sung by the partisans (partigiani)—a diverse movement of left-wing guerrilla fighters who opposed Benito Mussolini’s fascist regime and the Nazi German occupation of northern and central Italy after 1943. Its lyrics told of sacrifice, defiance, and the longing for freedom, making it a rallying cry for ordinary people risking their lives to liberate their country.

The song’s verses, which include the imagery of a partisan dying “in the mountains” and being buried “under the shadow of a beautiful flower,” served as a metaphor for resistance, suggesting individual lives would be lost, but freedom would rise from their sacrifice.
