Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins was found dead in Bogota, Colombia while the Foo Fighters were on tour in South America.
The 50-year-old was found dead in his hotel room in the Colombian capital. The band was there to play at a festival on Friday night. At the time, the cause of death was confirmed.
Foo Fighters said they were devastated by the loss of Taylor Hawkins and he will be in their memories forever. Hawkins played with former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl on vocals for more than 20 years. Grohl had also lost another bandmate, Kurt Cobain of Nirvana in 1994. Cobain was found dead at his home in Seattle, Washington on April 8. He was only 27.
When Grohl found out about his bandmate Kurt Cobain’s death almost 28 years ago, he started the Foo Fighters as a one-man project. He didn’t want to join any other bands despite getting many offers, giving the reason in his book that it would just remind him of Nirvana. Hawkins would join the Foo Fighters in 1997.
Old images of Taylor Hawkins with Kurt Cobain have re-surfaced after the news of Hawkins’ death came out. You can look at it below:
It has been reported that Taylor Hawkins suffered chest pains before dying. According to reports from Bogota, hotel staff called emergency services when Hawkins suffered chest pains but by the time help could arrive, he had already passed away.
Over on the Foo Fighters subreddit, fans have continued to pour in their tributes for the late drummer. One user with the username Anonyfunnybunny stated: “Ah, this is terrible news. Huge fan here. I was lucky enough to have been at the Swedish concert when Dave fell off the stage and broke his leg – after Dave was taken away for treatment Taylor led a bunch of cover songs, Under Pressure, stuff like that, he had an amazing voice, and of course his drumming was legendary. He was an amazing character and he loved Dave and the band. Feels like a friend has died. Really gutted here.”
