Metallica fans are speculating that the band might perform at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony. It has come to light that a French publication (as translated): “A famous international hard-rock group” has been rumored to be confirmed as a performer for the Games. The rumors come at a time when they wrapped their Europe leg of their tour.
Metallica brings back charity concert
It has been noted that Metallica is bringing back its Helping Hands Concert and Auction. On Monday, the rock band announced that it will perform at a charity concert on December 13 at Los Angeles’ YouTube Theater with a yet-to-be-revealed lineup of guest stars hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. It was previously revealed that James Hetfield ‘stole to survive’ with Metallica.
“We’re psyched to announce we’re adding one more show to the calendar this year,” the band wrote on Instagram. “Our @allwithinmyhandsfoundation’s Helping Hands Concert & Auction returns to Los Angeles.”
It has been announced that the profits from the tickets and the auctioned-off items will go back 100 percent to the Helping Hands organization. Tickets for this year’s edition go on sale on Friday, July 26, at 10 a.m. PT. Fans hoping to travel from outside of California can purchase travel packages through the band fan page’s website.
The legendary metal band had last hosted the Helping Hands Concert and Auction in Dec. 2022, when they raised $3 million that went directly to the organization’s efforts in supporting workforce education, disaster relief, and the fight against hunger. The last show featured appearances from Robert Downey Jr., Tony Hawk, and St. Vincent. Greta Van Fleet also performed.
Metallica established the organization in 2017 and they have ever since raised more than $15 million, including $8 million in grants for technical education programs and almost $4 million to combat food insecurity.
Metallica is currently on its M72 World Tour, where they’re performing two shows in each city with completely different sets and different openers. The group will perform their show pairs in Boston, Chicago, Seattle, and Minneapolis next month. They’ll then play four nights in Mexico City in late September.
The band has brought along acts such as Pantera, Mammoth WVH, Five Finger Death Punch, and Ice Nine Kills on the road. (They also played a virtual concert on Fortnite last month called the “Metallica: Fuel. Fire. Fury” show.)
