Paris Jackson is speaking out after facing criticism for her decision to perform on June 25, the same day her father, Michael Jackson, passed away in 2009. She addressed the backlash directly through a candid video shared on her Instagram, explaining the circumstances and defending her choice.

The criticism stemmed from Paris’ scheduled appearance as an opening act on tour with Incubus and Manchester Orchestra. Many fans were upset that her performance landed on a date that holds deep significance for Michael Jackson’s fans around the world.

“So, people are mad again,” Paris said in the video. “One of the tour dates I’m supposed to be going out on tour with Incubus and Manchester Orchestra happens to be June 25, which is a very negative anniversary for me in my life and my family.”

She went on to explain that, as an opener, she doesn’t have the power to choose the tour dates or cities where she performs. “When you’re first of three, and you’re not headlining these shows, you don’t pick what date you perform or what time you go on stage to perform, or what city you perform in,” she said.

Paris also addressed the harsh expectations placed on her as Michael Jackson’s daughter and explained that logistical challenges play a big role in touring decisions. “First of three also doesn’t get a tour bus,” she added. “You get maybe a sprinter van, which I’ve done before when I’ve got a band with me. But I’m not going to have my band with me this time.”
