During an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” last week, Michael Stipe spoke about the possibility of an R.E.M. biopic.

Casting the hypothetical film, Stipe joked that whoever plays him has to be “someone really hot.”

When Colbert suggested “it’s got to be David Cross” if he is depicted in the movie with a beard, Stipe seemed shocked before conceding to the idea.

The singer then suggested that a younger version of himself could be portrayed by Billie Eilish.

“Maybe Billie Eilish could do it,” he said, prompting an enthusiastic reaction from Colbert, who pointed out their similar eyes.

Asked whether he had ever met Eilish, Stipe recalled: “She held a door open for me ounce at a restaurant in Manhattan. And I don’t know if she knew who I was. She’s incredibly polite and sweet, but I didn’t know who she was until she was down the street.”

“I would love to meet her,” he added.
