Guitarist John 5 recently reflected on Motley Crue’s absence from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Speaking on American Music Supply, he was asked why he believes the legendary rock band has yet to receive induction.
“Oh, I have no idea. I’d vote for ’em. I have no idea. But if it was up to me, I’d have ’em in one day after the 25 years,” John 5 said.
The guitarist further revealed what he considers the most important criterion for Hall of Fame recognition.
“I think they should be in it, and I think it’d be wonderful. They deserve it, because I think it’s all about influence. And so many bands, so many countless musicians and bands have been influenced by Mötley Crüe. And I think it’s what’s important. So, yeah, it’s a head scratcher. But I think they deserve it by far. Yeah,” he continued.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guidelines say that artists become eligible for induction 25 years after their first commercial record release. This applies regardless of genre, as long as their contributions advance rock and roll’s development. Motley Crue met this eligibility requirement in 2004, meaning they have been eligible for nearly two decades without receiving an induction.
