Neal Schon recently gave fans some good news about Journey’s lineup and his relationship with longtime bandmate Jonathan Cain during an interview on Trunk Nation with Eddie Trunk. Schon also recently reacted to Steve Perry selling Journey gear.
Neal Schon Gives Positive Update on Journey’s Future
Schon said things are finally improving between him and Cain, who have had public disagreements in recent years. Schon explained that after taking a year off, both musicians had time to reflect and reconnect. He said they’ve had great talks and meetings lately, something that hadn’t happened in years.
Schon shared that the band is planning a new tour and that this time, things feel different. He said he and Cain are now “on the same page,” and that the upcoming tour will be more positive and united, rather than tense like before.
“Everything is cool. You know, we decided to take a year off of which we did, [and that] gives everybody some time to think about everything that’s going on,” Schon said. “You know, I’ve had some great conversations with Jonathan lately and some great meetings with him for the first time in many years.”
“We seem to be on the same page, which is a good sign for me,” he continued. “I think that it’s going to be a fun, happy tour. [It’s not going to be] just me standing on one side of the stage and Jon on the other… I think we’re going to really come together this time.”
This marks a big change from 2024, when the two were involved in a legal battle over Journey’s touring company, Freedom 2020, Inc. Cain had accused Schon of overspending on hotels and private jets, which allegedly affected the band’s ability to pay staff. Both men own 50% of the company, which caused constant disagreements and eventually led to canceled tour dates in the UK and Ireland.
The conflict was resolved when a court appointed a neutral custodian to make business decisions if Schon and Cain couldn’t agree. Now, with that issue settled and their friendship mending, Schon says the band is ready to move forward with a sense of teamwork and optimism for the future. This comes after Schon’s failed efforts to get together with Steve Perry.
