Pearl Jam recorded multiple new songs in Melbourne, including a song called “Pressure Point.”
Pearl Jam Online said, “Mark, an Australian musician and sound engineer of the FF&N Breakfast radio show, confirmed that during Pearl Jam’s recent visit to Melbourne, the band visited some recording studios and recorded some new songs. He played some dubs, keys and guitars on a few new tracks.”
Pearl Jam closed out their “Dark Matter” tour with a bang on Saturday (Nov. 23) in Sydney, Australia. Eddie Vedder and co. unearthed the Temple of the Dog hit “Hunger Strike” for the first time in over 10 years.
While Eddie Vedder’s band The Earthlings performed the track two years ago, this is the first time Pearl Jam (which consists of the remaining members of Temple of the Dog) have played “Hunger Strike” live since the song’s original co-vocalist and Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell passed away in 2017.
The last time Pearl Jam performed the iconic song was in 2014 alongside Cornell himself at Neil Young’s Bridge School Benefit in Mountain View, California.
“You have great voices here, and we’d like to have you use them with us now,” Vedder told the sold-out crowd before launching into the track, surprising those in attendance. And the audience did just that, using their voices to fill in for Cornell during the chorus.
Former Red Hot Chili Peppers’ guitarist, and current Pearl Jam touring member, Josh Klinghoffer also lent his vocals to the song, singing the parts normally sung by Vedder on the studio version while Vedder tackled Cornell’s portion of the song.
