Former Pearl Jam drummer Dave Abbruzzese revealed in a new Rolling Stone India interview that for a time, he ‘couldn’t accept’ late Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell’s death.

Rolling Stone India asked, “How did you take to the news of Chris Cornell’s death?”

Abbruzzese responded, “I will never forget it. I have had the benefit of a great many people in my life leaving an indelible imprint on my life. As I get older, they get older and too many of them are gone. Always unexpected and always a stark reminder to cherish the times as they are happening.

I had a hard time accepting the news that Chris was gone for so many reasons. My love and respect for Chris and his brother Peter (I played drums on Peter Cornell’s Champion album) made this a particularly challenging event. It still is.”

Abbruzzese recently covered “Seasons” with Pseutopia in honor of Chris Cornell. The video has over 113,000 views.

Abbruzzese said about the reaction to the tribute recording, “The fact that our version of the song has been received so well is very rewarding. I am proud to have been a part of this track. And yes, there is another track coming soon.”
