Pearl Jam have had a revolving door of members just like most bands do, but it’s rare that band members get a chance to play together once again after the band has moved on. Luckily, in the case of Stone Gossard – he has just gotten that chance.
Stone Gossard will be joining Matt Chamberlin at a show in Seattle. The two ex-bandmates will be under the name ‘Painted Shield,’ as they are joined by other great musicians.
Now, it has to be said about just how deep the Matt Chamberlin relationship went with Pearl Jam. To be honest, it wasn’t a long relationship at all. It was about three weeks in length. He was the second drummer of Pearl Jam and played with them for about three weeks in the summer of 1991. He was in their music video for their song “Alive.”
There is more to him though as during the 1991 and 1992 season, he was a drummer for the house band of Saturday Night Live. He has played with David Bowie, Elton John, Brandi Carlile, Fiona Apple, The Wallflowers, Macy Gray, Natalie Merchant, Tori Amos, Garbage and others.
In 2016, 2019 and 2021 he won Modern Drummer magazine’s readers poll in the Studio Musician category. In 2014 he filled in for drummer Matt Cameron in Soundgarden. He played over 51 shows with them through South America, Europe and a co-headlining tour with Nine Inch Nails in the United States.
Chamberlain joined Bob Dylan’s Never Ending Tour in 2019 and played on his 2020 release Rough and Rowdy Ways. It’s safe to say that he is a very accomplished artist who will surely put on a show with Stone Gossard in Seattle.
.@PaintedShield is taking over Clock-Out Lounge in Seattle on March 10th. Tickets are limited so be sure to secure your spot now to see @SGossard, @masonjennings, Matt Chamberlain, Brittany Davis, and Jeff Fielder perform live.
