Trump Aide Steven Cheung Slams Bruce Springsteen’s New US Tour
Bruce Springsteen’s newly announced “Land of Hope and Dreams” American tour has sparked a sharp response from the White House, after the 76-year-old rocker publicly condemned President Donald Trump and his administration in remarks tied to the run of dates.
Springsteen announced the spring tour on Tuesday and described the United States as being “under attack by our wannabe king and his rogue government in Washington, D.C.,” adding that “the cavalry is coming” as he framed the concerts as a defence of democracy and the Constitution, Yahoo Entertainment reported.
On Wednesday, White House communications director Steven Cheung fired back in a statement to Politico that stitched together Springsteen song titles while accusing the singer of “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” Cheung referred to Springsteen as a “loser” and claimed his “glory days are behind him,” using references to tracks including “Glory Days,” “City of Ruins,” “Out in the Street,” and “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out.”
The exchange follows Springsteen’s recent string of protest-focused performances and releases, including his Minneapolis benefit appearance with Tom Morello that Alternative Nation covered when the White House hit back at Bruce Springsteen’s ICE song.
Springsteen is set to open the “Land of Hope and Dreams” tour in Minneapolis on March 31, keeping his political message front and centre as his live schedule ramps up again in the US.
