Queen drummer Roger Taylor discussed Bohemian Rhapsody in a new Mojo magazine interview, and he also discussed an album spearheaded by Freddie Mercury that he wasn’t a huge fan of.
He said that watching Ben Hardy playing him in Queen’s biopic film was “slightly unnerving.”
Taylor said, “Ben did a wonderful job, though. If I had one criticism, it’s that some of the clothes were things I’d never have worn.
“That’s not Ben’s fault. Those were the clothes he was given.”
The Queen drummer laughed and added, “They also didn’t quite get my hair right.”
A Night At The Opera’s second single “You’re My Best Friend” features an all time classic Freddie Mercury vocal performance, and it is penned by John Deacon. Taylor doesn’t appear to love the song, calling it ‘lightweight.’
Taylor chooses his words carefully, “I wasn’t opposed to it…”
“You’re My Best Friend was poppy and lightweight, but I could see its commercial potential. You can’t always tell, though.”
He also said that he didn’t think “Another One Bites The Dust” would be a hit.
Taylor says, “I was never opposed to Another One Bites The Dust. I just didn’t think it would be a hit.”
Deacon and Freddie spearheaded the funk/dance focused Hot Space, with Taylor saying, “I always hated the cover, but, musically, the album was OK…”
Taylor said he no longer speaks to Deacon.
“We don’t have any contact with John.’
