Queens of the Stone Age reunited with former bassist Nick Oliveri onstage during their homecoming show in Joshua Tree on Friday (April 24), marking their first performance together in 12 years.
Frontman Josh Homme welcomed Oliveri on stage, describing him as “one of the people that I love dearly.” The group then launched into “Auto Pilot,” a fan favorite from their 2000 album “Rated R,” with Oliveri sharing vocal duties alongside Homme and current bassist Michael Shuman.
Until recently, “Auto Pilot” had been a live rarity, played just twice between 2004 and 2023 before recently being resurrected for the band’s stripped-down “Catacombs Tour,” according to Setlist FM.
Oliveri was a member of QOTSA from 1998 to 2004, contributing as both bassist and occasional vocalist. Prior to that, he played with Homme in Kyuss. His most recent appearance with the band before this reunion came in 2014, when he joined them for a Halloween show at The Forum in Los Angeles.
