Anthony Kiedis discussed working with producer Danger Mouse on Red Hot Chili Peppers’ new album The Getaway, set for release on June 17th, in a new interview with KROQ. Alternative Nation transcribed the following quotes.

“When all the dust settled, Brian Burton aka Danger Mouse emerged, and said let’s go make a record. We’re like, ‘Great, we have all these songs [20-30].’ He’s like, ‘Eh, leave those there, let’s go write new songs in the studio.’ So the process began over again.”

“He had [listened to the 20-30 songs written prior], but he has very specific Brian tastes, and he just wanted to see what would happen when we went into the studio and started something fresh.”

“He just knows what he likes.”

“Initially there was pushback, there was an affinity and marriage to these other songs, but the only way we saw this working was to have trust in him.”

“Sometimes you strike out miserably. I would show up and I would say, ‘I think I’ve got it!’ I would do it, and Brian would be like, ‘Mmmmm, that’s not really working, but let’s try this other thing.'”
