Red Hot Chili Peppers fans were pissed on April Fools Day after a convincing fake Flea tweet made them think John Frusciante was coming back.

The fake Flea tweet said, “Okay, got something to tell you…a pretty big announcement. I’m honored, glad and so fucking happy to tell you that @johnfrusciante is gonna play with us for our show in Milan, date 07/24/2019. And more soon…”

Fan comments included:

” :o! APRIL FOOLS, WHY? IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO JOKE ABOUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS!”

“TIHS TYPE OF JOKES SHOULD BE FORBIDDEN. I ALMOST BOUGHT MY FLIGHT TICKETS JUST BY LOOKING AT THAT TWEETY.”

“Honestly sharing this provenly FALSE tweet April Fools Day or not should be punishable by DEATH.”

“Don’t you dare play with my feelings like that. 😤😭”

“Frusciante don’t have twitter.”

“actually he does and he or someone from his oraganization made a post a month ago… we all went crazy over it! I’m surprised you didn’t see all the hype about it..it had been almost 3 years since his last post.”

Alternative Nation had a far better received April Fools joke, with Billy Corgan taking over Nirvana being our joke story.

A reader named Segmented commented, “Brett this is a work of genius!

This is by far the best April fools joke I’ve ever been party to.

You have expertly identified and exploited an incredibly irritating and yet almost believable paranoia in the average Nirvana obsessed fan and are clearly knowledge enough about both Nirvana and Billy Corgan as to concoct a devilishly hilarious fantasy which unravels into greater and greater farse until all but the most unaware would gradually awaken to the ruse.

I am a lifelong Nirvana fan and old enough to have been there and understand that Nirvana were the work of three talented people (exceptional as Kurt undoubtedly is).

C’mon people now, those of you who are most angry are just annoyed that Brett played you so brilliantly with his well constructed joke.

You had me going until ‘Saudi Arabia.’

It doesn’t matter if you got a million shares or hits etc or four.

I got the joke and it blew me away.

Everyone else, please learn to laugh at yourselves.

PS. I can almost imagine Billy Corgan would actually do this given the chance.”
