Nick Reiner Cut Off Financially by Family
Nick Reiner will have to find a way to pay for his legal defense in the case involving the murders of his parents, as his family has reportedly cut him off completely. Gossip columnist Rob Shuter reported that the family can no longer support him in any way.
“They are devastated. But they realized they cannot support him anymore—not financially, not emotionally, not morally,” Shuter wrote in a story published on his Substack on Wednesday, January 7.
Defense Attorney Withdraws From Case
The update came just hours after Nick Reiner’s attorney, Alan Jackson, announced he was stepping away from the case. Jackson said the decision was unavoidable due to circumstances that made continuing impossible.
“We have no choice but to withdraw. Circumstances beyond our control—beyond Nick’s control—made it impossible to continue,” Jackson said on January 7.
Despite withdrawing, Jackson maintained that he believes Reiner is innocent. “What we’ve learned, and you can take this to the bank, is that pursuant to the laws of this state, Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder,” he said, adding that the legal team wished him well moving forward.
Alleged Behavior Behind the Legal Breakdown
According to Shuter, Jackson’s departure was tied to Reiner’s refusal to cooperate with his legal team. One insider claimed Reiner would not meet with attorneys, lashed out at staff, ignored legal advice, and appeared disconnected from reality.
Another source described Reiner’s behavior as “erratic,” “threatening,” and “unpredictable,” making it impossible for the defense team to represent him effectively.
Case Background and What Comes Next
Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their Brentwood home on December 14. Their youngest son, Nick Reiner, was taken into custody that same night and later charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
After Alan Jackson’s withdrawal, Reiner was assigned public defender Kimberly Greene. His arraignment is currently scheduled for February 23.
