Late Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland would have turned 50 today. The legendary singer was born Scott Richard Kline on October 27, 1967 at Kaiser Hospital in San Jose, California to parents Kent Kline and Sharon Williams. Kent and Sharon divorced, and Scott was later adopted by his stepfather David Weiland, changing his name to Scott Weiland.
Weiland tragically died from a drug overdose on December 3, 2015 at the age of 48, so today is a bittersweet day for fans, friends, and family of STP’s late frontman. Scott’s musical legacy has been criminally underrated since his death, so to celebrate his music today on the 50th anniversary of his birth, crank some STP and share his music with people who have never heard it. The great thing about his catalog is he was such a chameleon, there is something for everybody. Like I told Scott when I interviewed him a month before his passing, people will still be discovering his music 100 years after he’s gone, it’s just that timeless.
Scott’s widow Jamie Weiland shared eight previously unreleased photos she took of him with Alternative Nation to commemorate what would have been his 50th birthday. Rest in peace Scottie.
