Soundgarden‘s surviving members Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron, and Ben Shepherd have reunited to re-record “Black Hole Sun” and “Searching…With My Good Eye Closed” with Brandi Carlile, who also fronted the band during their performance at the ‘I Am The Highway’ Chris Cornell tribute show in January 2019. Taylor Momsen and Taylor Hawkins also served as Soundgarden lead singer at that tribute show.

Soundgarden and Brandi Carlile’s collaboration double single is titled A Rooster Says. Alternative Nation transcribed Brandi’s remarks about the collaboration and reunion, “I am so stoked to tell you about one of the greatest honors of my life. This is a dream come true for a Seattle girl. I got to record two of my favorite songs in life with Soundgarden. We did this for Indie Record Store Day. This comes out on September 26th.”

Soundgarden said in a statement, “Matt, Ben and Kim are featured on Brandi Carlile’s exclusive Record Store Day 2-Song vinyl of Soundgarden songs Searching With My Good Eye Closed and Black Hole Sun available today only.”

Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron also recorded with Taylor Momsen last year for a song that will appear on The Pretty Reckless’ Death By Rock and Roll album in 2021. Soundgarden recently launched their own ‘Nudedragons’ social media accounts due to allegedly losing access to Vicky Cornell, who they are currently in a legal battle with over their unreleased final album and royalty payments.
