Former Van Halen bassist Mark Stone died from cancer, but his last photo from his final public appearance in December 2017 has surfaced. In December 2017, Stone performed live for the final time with Van Halen cover band Fan Halen in Pasadena at the Rose.

Stone played in the early incarnation of Van Halen, originally forming the trio known as Genesis with Eddie Van Halen and Alex Van Halen in 1972. David Lee Roth later joined, with Michael Anthony later replacing Stone to complete Van Halen’s classic original lineup.

Mark’s brother Brad Stone confirmed the death on Instagram, writing, ” “My beloved brother Mark passed this morning. #markstone #vanhalen #fanhalen.”

11fozzies commented, “So very sorry, Brad. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family. Heaven has gained a great bass player.”

Steveharris2018 told Brad, “So sorry to hear that sad news. I lost one of my brothers to Covid today. May they both rest peaceful, easy and shine on. #markstone #vanhalen #fanhalen #mikeharris.”

Van Halen Rising book author Greg Renoff tweeted, “Just got the very sad news that Mark Stone, who played bass with the Van Halen brothers in Genesis, Mammoth, and Van Halen between 1970-1974, has passed away.

Mark helped lay the foundation the band we all love. RIP. Condolences to his wife and all those who loved him.”
