Soundgarden’s long-awaited induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was a powerful performance, but it was impacted by a couple of technical problems. Soundgarden fans were quick to notice sound issues that affected multiple parts of the set.

Audio issues during Soundgarden performance

Guitarist Kim Thayil’s solo during “Black Hole Sun” was reportedly inaudible for much of the song, while Nancy Wilson’s guitar appeared to cut in and out during the “Fell On Black Days” performance with Toni Cornell. Bassist Ben Shepherd also struggled with volume problems, with his amp seemingly set far too low throughout the set including on “Black Hole Sun”.

Viewers expressed frustration on social media and emphasized that the problems were not due to the band, but rather to poor sound engineering at the event. Many felt the mishaps were preventable, and detracted from a triumphant celebration of Soundgarden’s legacy.

Other artists reportedly faced similar difficulties during the ceremony, including Bryan Adams, who appeared to have issues with his in-ear monitors during his tribute performance for Bad Company.

While Soundgarden’s induction was an emotional moment, the sound issues were definitely noticed by fans.

Although Cornell’s absence was felt during the evening, Soundgarden were eager to honor their late frontman. The band has also confirmed that a final album featuring unreleased material recorded with Cornell is on its way.
