Dino Cazares questioning Steve Perry’s ability to hit high notes for a potential Journey reunion is an interesting take.
The Fear Factory guitarist first tweeted about wanting more rock and metal acts at the Super Bowl halftime show, mentioning bands like Metallica and AC/DC.
When a fan pointed out that next year’s Super Bowl will be in San Francisco, another fan suggested that Journey’s Steve Perry and Neal Schon should reunite. Cazares responded by saying he doesn’t think Perry can hit the high notes anymore and that the band might have to tune their instruments lower.
In another tweet, Cazares speculated about who might perform at the Super Bowl, suggesting Metallica, Carlos Santana with guests, Journey, or Too Short.
Perry’s last full concert with Journey was in early 1987. He briefly rejoined them in 1991 to honor promoter Bill Graham and later appeared with the band in 2005 when they got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In a 2018 interview with 106.7 Lite FM, Perry made it clear he had no plans to reunite with Journey. He praised current singer Arnel Pineda but said he had moved on. He also shared that he lost his passion for music for a long time but eventually rediscovered it.
In May 2023, Perry signed with a new label and hinted at returning to live performances. He told Rolling Stone that he misses performing but wants to do it with real passion, not just as a routine.
Perry released his solo album Traces in 2018, but the tour he planned never happened. Instead, he later put out a stripped-down version of the album.
