Alternative rock greats System of a Down have announced on their Facebook page that they will play a short 2017 European tour that includes dates at the Download Festival in Paris & Spain. Currently, the tour is just a few shows and there are currently no U.S. plans in the works.

Early last month, SOAD’s Shavo Odadijan posted a couple of rehearsal photos on Twitter labeled #letsdothis. It also had a 4-3-2-1 countdown. Since then we’ve heard little about the band with no new updates concerning the photos…until now.

System of a Down have not released an album since November 2005’s Hypnotize and have played just a little more than a handful; perhaps an armful of shows in the U.S. in the last decade since. With these shows announced, fans will begin to wonder if any other plans are being coordinated: more dates including ones in the U.S. or perhaps a new album? Whatever happens, this band has stirred our imaginations before and who knows what magic they may conjure up in the future.
The last new music heard from Serj Tankian was the song “Artsakh” featured in the film The Promise.
