Bruce Springsteen Draws Celebs to MSG Show
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s “Land of Hope and Dreams” American Tour stop at Madison Square Garden on Monday, May 11, turned into a star-studded night as actors, musicians and sports powerbrokers were spotted in the crowd while Springsteen delivered a lengthy set.
Actor Tom Hanks was seen singing along to “Long Walk Home,” while Jon Bon Jovi attended with his wife Dorothea and swayed to “Badlands,” Asbury Park Press reported.
Bon Jovi’s row also included New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and his wife Dr. Dana Blumberg, as well as NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and his wife Jane Skinner Goodell, according to the report. Journalist Katrina vanden Heuvel posted photos from the show, and SNY Mets field reporter Steve Gelbs joked online that the concert coincided with his delayed report as the team called up prospect AJ Ewing during “The Rising.”
Guitarist Al Di Meola was among the musicians in attendance, and his reaction came amid Springsteen’s recent run of pointed onstage remarks, echoing the broader tone covered in his political speech to Florida fans earlier on the tour.
Springsteen’s MSG set leaned heavily on big-stage staples and topical material, running from “War” and “Born in the U.S.A.” through “American Skin (41 Shots),” “The Rising,” and closing stretch favourites including “Born to Run,” “Dancing in the Dark,” and “Chimes of Freedom.” The tour continues Thursday, May 14 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center before returning to Madison Square Garden on Saturday, May 16.
