In a significant announcement, the Foo Fighters have officially welcomed Josh Freese as their new drummer, unveiling him as part of their new touring lineup during a pre-tour livestream event titled “Foo Fighters: Preparing Music For Concerts.” The revelation came after entertaining appearances by renowned drummers Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tommy Lee of Mötley Crüe, and Danny Carey of Tool.
Josh Freese, previously known for his work with Danny Elfman and as a touring drummer for The Offspring, has now joined the Foo Fighters, replacing longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins, who tragically passed away in March 2022 at the age of 50. Freese’s connection with the band can be traced back to 2022 when he performed with them at tribute concerts held in honor of Hawkins.
With an extensive career as a session drummer, Freese brings a wealth of experience to the Foo Fighters. He has collaborated with esteemed artists such as Guns N’ Roses, A Perfect Circle, Puddle of Mudd, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, Paramore, The Replacements, Sting, and The Vandals, among many others. His versatility is reflected in over 300 recordings across various genres, including pop, rock, and country.
The Foo Fighters are gearing up for a series of highly anticipated tour dates, starting with a performance at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion on May 24. Their itinerary includes notable festival stops, such as Boston Calling in May, Riot Fest in Chicago in September, Bonnaroo in June, Festival D’Ete De Quebec in July, Outside Lands in August, and Ohana in August, among many more.
The band’s 11th album, “But Here We Are,” is set for release on June 2 via Roswell/RCA, adding even more excitement to their upcoming tour.
Although Taylor Hawkins’s untimely passing shook the music world, the Foo Fighters and their fans have united to pay tribute to the late drummer. In addition to the tribute concerts held in London and Los Angeles, various commemorative events and performances have taken place, including a segment at the Grammy Awards, a drum circle in Hawkins’s hometown, and a powerful rendition of the Foo Fighters song “My Hero” performed by over 1,000 musicians.
