Rare photos of Tool members Maynard James Keenan and Adam Jones at Sound City Studios have surfaced, just months after Kurt Cobain was in the studio making the album that made him a star in the eyes of fans and media news industry. Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl made a Sound City documentary in 2013, and Grohl recorded Nirvana’s Nevermind with Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic at Sound City Studios in 1991. The photos were taken just a couple of months after the release of Nevermind in late 1991, with Maynard looking a bit sad in one of them. Dave Grohl was recently filmed dancing with an A-list singer.

The new Tool album first photo was finally leaked a few days ago. Foo Fighters played at the Epicenter Festival in North Carolina in May, and an article at the time revealed Dave Grohl’s reaction to Tool’s performance being canceled due to inclement weather.

“The big news was the weather which was out of anyone’s control. Fortunately, Dave Grohl and his gang of Foo Fighters played for around two and a half hours on Day Three to close out the festival after weather brought Day Two to a premature end.

In case you’re wondering, no they did not cover any Tool songs although it was discussed. Dave plainly told the crowd, with a grin, ‘We won’t be playing any Tool songs. We’re not that good.’ Dave also dedicated the song ‘My Hero’ to his mother because, well, it was Mother’s Day.”
