Tool Singer Maynard James Keenan Hits Back At Rape Allegations

Tool singer Maynard James Keenan has offered his first reaction to totally unverified and anonymous Twitter allegations on Twitter that he raped a woman.

He tweeted, “Many thanks to those of you who saw right through this despicable false claim that only does damage to the #metoo movement. And shame on those of you who perpetuate this destructive clickbait. As for my delayed but un-required response, I had my phone off. You should try it.”

We have also compiled further evidence that debunks the claims.

Alternative Nation did not cover the details of the totally unverified and anonymous Twitter allegations. They are serious claims that could destroy a man’s life, and allegations like that should only be listened to if a person comes forward and tells their story with their own name, or if they verify their identity privately with a news outlet and provide corroborating evidence.

We did post a story yesterday about a recent NME interview Maynard did in recent weeks before the completely unverified claims came out, about how ‘incendiary’ stories can go viral on social media even if they’re not true, due to how relevant the quote is now as that is exactly what this story is based on real evidence.

Fans on Tool’s Reddit page uncovered details that appear to totally debunk the anonymous Twitter users. The Twitter account that started this was created within an hour of an account that responded and tried to bring Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor into the story with a tweet. The account that mentioned Trent Reznor laid dormant for 5 days before responding. The original account liked the Reznor tweet by this other account. The Reznor tweet has now been deleted. Another account trying to make claims was created just a few days later along with another, and has been restricted. The original account liked a tweet from this account.

You can view the research below done by fans on the Tool Reddit page. Men and women making allegations about inappropriate behavior who come forward with their name or privately with their identity/evidence to a news outlet deserve to be listened to, but this Maynard James Keenan story lacks any of that, and appears to be an attempt to destroy a man’s life and career.
