Adam Clayton recently joined in for a recent Q&A with The Guardian after the 20th anniversary reissue of U2’s ‘How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb’ and the outtakes release ‘How to Re-Assemble an Atomic Bomb,’

When asked who he would like to apologize to the most, Clayton shared, “To all my ex-girlfriends because I never turned into the person I thought I was. And to Naomi Campbell, for not being ready to deal with my addictions.”

Clayton and Campbell dated in the 1990s, when the bassist was struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. His turning point came in 1996, when he missed a U2 concert as he was too hungover, which led him to seek sobriety.

Campbell never went into the details of her relationship with Clayton following their breakup. However, when asked during a 2015 interview with Irish Independent, she noted, “Good memories. I went to see the concert in LA, and I’m friends with the whole band. The whole band was great. Their kids are all grown up. It’s nice to know people for so long and still have a relationship.”

“I won’t discuss my private life. I only have very positive things to say about him,” the model added. “I am very proud of Adam.”

Clayton went on to marry former human rights lawyer Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho in Dublin in 2013. Four years later, he received the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award at the MusiCares 13th annual MAP Fund Benefit Concert for his work supporting addiction recovery. The same year, the couple, who announced their divorce in early 2024, welcomed a daughter.
