Former Van Halen member Sammy Hagar, who is 77 years old can’t do a lot of things he used to be able to do due to his age. However, he’s not complaining and he loves aging. Speaking to PEOPLE, Hagar spoke about his imminent retirement. Hagar is aware that his on-stage days are numbered, admitting that retirement has crept into his head for ten years.

He said: “I get insecure in between shows, in between tours, and I think, ‘Gee, do I still have it? Can I really still do all that?’ And I get out there, and it’s like it’s riding a bike. I’m going to retire when I can’t do this, when I can’t sing anymore. I’m not going to have people pay the kind of money that it costs to see these concerts these days and not deliver. So that’s where my retirement is. It’s in the hands of the higher being.”

In the summer, Sammy Hagar was joined by Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani, Kenny Aronoff, and Rai Thistlethwayte for ‘Best of All Worlds’ tour that leaned heavily into the Van Halen catalog. Hagar has recently announced a Las Vegas residency show, which is set to begin on April 30th, 2025 at Park MGM and he will once again perform with them.

Several rockers have announced their retirement in recent years. Aerosmith walked off the stage at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York on September 9th last year during their farewell tour. Who knew it would be the end of their touring career. During this concert, frontman Steven Tyler fractured his larynx, forcing the rest of the tour to be called off. The band then announced that they were canceling their tour as Smith struggled to recover.

In October 2021, during an interview with Now Spinning Magazine, Roth announced his retirement, saying he was “throwing in the shoes.” His announcement came a year after the passing of his VAN HALEN bandmate Eddie Van Halen. In his statement announcing the retirement, Roth added that he had been thinking about his late guitarist and had been “encouraged and compelled to really come to grips with how short time is, and my time is probably even shorter.”
