Nine Inch Nails drummer Josh Freese is seemingly back in Weezer. He appears to be reuniting with Weezer for their upcoming South America shows.

Josh Freese joining Weezer?

In a cryptic post shared on Instagram, Freese dropped a photo of a drum kit featuring the Weezer logo, hinting at his return to the band.

“Getting ready to head down to South America with some old friends,” Freese said.

The move has sparked reactions from fans across both communities. A Weezer fan recently clarified the lineup change, noting that Pat Wilson will be moving to guitar for these shows while Freese takes over drums.

The fan said, “Pat (Wilson) is back on Guitar for these gigs, while Josh is on the kit, like the Raditude / Hurley era. Jason Freese confirmed this a month or so ago, while asked by Green Day fans.”

A Josh Freese fan also opened up on the news.

“Oh wow. Weezer just leveled up,” they commented.

“I think you’re too good of a drummer for them but I’m sure they’re nice guys and fun to play with.”

This marks a reunion between Freese and Weezer. The renowned session drummer has a fair share of history with the band. Freese previously served as Weezer’s touring drummer from 2009 to 2011 and contributed to the band’s live performances during the Raditude and Hurley album cycles.

Josh Freese’s return to Weezer comes after notable changes in his career path. He recently left the Foo Fighters and returned to Nine Inch Nails. His brother, Jason Freese, a touring musician for Green Day, confirmed that Josh will be rejoining Weezer for a single tour.

The decision for Freese to take over drumming duties stems partly from Pat Wilson’s desire to focus on guitar during the tour. Wilson wants to concentrate on his guitar playing for these shows, allowing Freese to take on the drum kit.

Weezer is scheduled to perform in South America and Australia, following their shows in the United States during late summer and early fall. The South America leg of the tour presents an opportunity for fans in the region to see the band with Freese behind the kit once again.
