Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder was recently interviewed by Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon and radio color man Ron Coomer on local radio station, 670 The Score. Here, Vedder revealed the real reason Pearl Jam now take frequent hiatuses from touring. It’s been nearly a year since the band played live, and they have no shows booked for 2019, which has frustrated many fans. Alternative Nation transcribed Coomer and Vedder’s comments. Vedder recently made a surprising Michael Jackson and the Jackson Five revelation.

Coomer: What do you guys go through, Ed [Vedder], you’ve been touring and I came back to Chicago to see you play from Pittsburgh and you were touring with Pearl Jam, now you’ve been touring in Europe. Is the same thing? Now your tour is over, you’ve told me this morning in the booth and it’s like, today, go home and just bring it down?

Vedder: Well the crazy thing that I just can’t imagine is that we’re lucky we get to make our schedule and we get to decide that we might tour more in a certain year, less, or spend more time in the studio. Yet, we can set how many days we want off, all these things that Jon or anybody else on the team – you sign up and you’re along for the ride.

Coomer: Yeah

Vedder: You know and thinking about your families, your wives, they have to have a deep understanding. It’s not really even just a singular job because you’re part of a team. You have to bring your best, there is no way to hold back because you have to bring your best.

Coomer: Well Jill was in the booth today with you, your wife and we were talking about how it’s family time now, now you get family time. Which we all need, downtime, family time or else none of it works.

Vedder: Or else you won’t have a family.

Coomer: Or else it doesn’t work.

Vedder: I hear that man, I hear that.

Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam members recently dropped an incredible video, which should help as fans await new albums from both bands.
