Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns N’ Roses, and Thunderpussy formed a supergroup for Mike McCready’s ‘Peak to the Sky’ show in Montana on Saturday, covering Prince, Led Zeppelin, and other rock titans. You can view video below. Pearl Jam and Red Hot Chili Peppers members previously debuted a Prince “Purple Rain” cover last year. A preshow video featuring a Chad Smith and Taylor Hawkins drum battle also has surfaced.
McCready previously revealed in an Explore Big Sky interview that he was thinking of a stunning name for the supergroup featuring some of rock’s biggest names.
“I have some kind of potential names here. Hot Pearl Pussy Fighters And Roses. Molly [from Thunderpussy] came up with that one.”
“It’s a working title, but that’s our Mookie Blaylock of this band.”
He later praised Chad Smith and Taylor Hawkins, who pulled a Dave Grohl and took center stage as singer.
“Chad Smith, the drummer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, a phenomenal smoking drummer. Taylor Hawkins, the drummer for the Foo Fighters, and a singer it turns out, so he will be singing a few of the numbers, and on drum duty.
Molly, Whitney, and Liam from Thunderpussy will be there on Saturday night and doing a few songs. My dear friend Duff McKagan who I grew up with here in Seattle, Washington from Guns N’ Roses will be playing bass. We’ll hopefully have a couple other special guests coming that we haven’t nailed down yet. It’s going to be a good evening of a lot of rock.”
Chad Smith’s Super Mega Funktastic Jam Rock All-Stars performed in October at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles at Will Ferrell’s Best Night of Your Life. The band features Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready, Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, Red Hot Chili Peppers members Chad Smith and Josh Klinghoffer, Dave Matthews Band bassist Stefan Lessard, and Brad Paisley.
